- The Left Hand handles the hard consonants (வ, ங, ஞ).
- The Right Hand manages the soft stops and medial forms (த, ப, ர).
- Vowels are centralized. Instead of hitting a modifier key for every single sound, the vowel signs (Uyir Mei) are placed logically adjacent to their base consonants.
3. Vowels and vowel signs
- Standalone vowels (used at syllable starts) map to dedicated keys (example: a → அ, Shift+a → ஆ).
- To form a syllable with a consonant + vowel:
- Type consonant key, then vowel sign key.
- Example: க (q) + இ (mapped key for i vowel sign) → கி (ki).
- Common vowel sign examples:
- ா (long a) → often Shift+a after consonant or specific key
-ி (short i) → mapped to m key or i-position
- ீ (long ī) → Shift+m or combined modifier
- ு, ூ (u, ū), ெ, ே (e, ē), ை (ai), ொ, ோ (o, ō), ௌ (au)
